Eating garlic is nutritional and flavorful and it can also help you lose 20 lbs. Or, eat it to lose any amount of weight. Let me tell you why.

Garlic has been eaten for health reasons for over 4000 years. Many people will tell you that a quick weight loss diet is unhealthy for you. That is just not true! As long as you are eating a well balanced diet, losing weight quickly is not unhealthy. In fact, getting rid of those extra unwanted pounds as quickly as possible is the best thing you can do for your body.

If you are overweight, it means that your body is storing more fat than what is healthy for you. It will affect you health, your looks, and your ability to get around. This additional weight puts added stress on your body and can permanently reduce your long-term health. Your body will never fully recover from even brief periods of being overweight.

Myths are created about the most recent quick weight loss diet. Today, I read an article printed by the American Heart Association that painted a negative picture about these diets. In the article, it said:

1. Many of the quick weight loss diets, such as th Cabbage Soup diet, “overemphasize one particular food or type of food”.

2. That they “violate the principle of eating a nutritious, well balanced diet”.

3. That they “violate a second important principle of good nutrition: Eating should be enjoyable. These diets are so monotmous and boring that it’s almost impossible to stay on them for long periods of time”.

4. These diets “don’t encourage physical activity”.

5. That most quick weight loss diets require a “drastic” change in eating patterns and that you cannot stay on them.

Look, I respect the American Heart Association and while I applaud most of what they have to say, they are wrong about the quick weight lost diets that are featured in this blog. Let me explain.

Key to quick diets are the food choices that you make. Obviously, since you have put on weight, your going to have to give up on some of the things that you have been eating. Making the right choice on foods to replace what you are giving up determines how quickly you can lose weight. Here are some things that diet guru’s have to say:

1. For quick diets, the experts recommend eating lots of fruit, vegetables, and wholegrain cereals. These are all high in fiber which reduces your hunger so you don’t feel like eating as much.

2. Drink lots of unflavored water. Water helps nutrients and vitamins to flow naturally into the cells of your body. For every pound that you weigh, you should drink at least 1/2 ounce of water per day. So, if you weigh 200 lbs., you should drink a minimum of 100 ounces of water per day.

3. High calcium levels are needed for quick diets. Calcium enables your body to burn fat faster. Normal dairy products (like milk and cheese) are high in calcium, but stay away from these! Instead, use soy based products (such as soy milk). Also, eat a lot of salmon or sardines. These are high in calcium. As a last resort, use calcium supplements and also take Vitamin D. Vitamin D helps the body to absorb calcium.

4. Stay away from fatty products. Consuming too much fat is why many of us gain weight. No more than 25% of your daily calorie intake should be from fat. And, the fat that you do consume should be non-satured fat.

5. Stay away from products that contain sugar. Besides the high calories, sugar causes your body to excrete chromium and chromium is one of the minerals you need to build lean tissue.

You have to evaluate the food groups that you have been eating and decide which of those food groups have caused you to gain weight. Once found, you have to replace these food groups with other choices that are healthier for you.

Eating less is not the answer for quick diets. It rarely works. It’s too hard to stay on a diet that’s based solely on eating less. Pretty soon you will be back eating the way you were and your body will quickly put back on the weight that you may have lost.

I know it’s not easy to evaluate what things you have been eating and determine which ones have caused you to gain weight. And, it’s not easy to determine what to replace those food groups with. But, it has to be done. A lot of us would like to lose a few pounds so a lot of us turn to a quick weight loss diet. We want to lose those pounds and we want to lose them quickly. Unfortunately, many of us do things that we should not do while on a quick weight loss diet. Here are some things that you should not do:

1. Massive calorie reduction – Many people believe that if they greatly reduce how much they eat, or how many calories they intake, that it will lead to quick weight loss. That is an error. When your body believes it is starving, the brain will slow down your metabolism. You will probably lose a few pounds, but when you start eating again you will put those pounds back on very quickly. On this diet you don’t starve yourself, but because of the types of foods you are consuming, your metabolism is shifted so that you are consuming more calories than you are intaking.

However, drinking only water and not consuming any calories is unhealthy and will not cause you to lose much weight. In fact, in the long run it may cause you to gain weight. Your metabolism slows down when you are consuming only water and when you start eating again your body will want to store extra fat. Consuming only water is not a quick weight loss diet.

Is there a rationale for quick diets? Well, sure there is! Haven’t you had something come up on you that you had not expected and suddenly you wanted to lose a few pounds before that event occurred. For example, a relative suddenly calls you and tells you they would like to visit you in 2-3 weeks. Or, your friend calls you and tells you they are getting married next month. We have all had these things happen and we all wanted to look our best before those events occurred.

But, do we really need a rationale for looking for quick diets? Shouldn’t we be able to go on a quick diet just because we want to? Do we all have to go on one of those nutritional diets that will take months to lose the weight that we want to lose? Do we all have to go on a diet that requires you to do daily exercising? Well, I don’t think so!

I started looking at various quick diets simply because I wanted to. I wanted to lose 20 lbs fast. I wanted the weight to be gone – to be over with.

Not all quick diets are bad for you. The diets that I sponsor in this blog are nutritional and they will help you lose weight quickly. And, no you don’t have to exercise. Now, I’m not saying that exercising won’t help you lose weight, because it will. I’m just saying that exercising is not required.
